Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 15, 2026
SmartTab ("we", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the SmartTab Chrome extension and this website collect, how it is used, and your choices.
Data stored locally
SmartTab stores your settings, widget layout, to-do items, notes, passwords (encrypted), and preferences locally in your browser using Chrome storage. This data is not sent to our servers. If Chrome Sync is enabled, it may sync across your signed-in Chrome devices per Google's sync policies.
Optional permissions
Some features use optional Chrome permissions you control:
- identity — only if you enable the Gmail widget, for Google OAuth sign-in
- topSites — only if you enable the Top Sites widget, to show your most visited pages
- favicon — optional, for displaying website icons in widgets
Third-party APIs
Widgets fetch public data from third-party services when you use them:
- Weather — Open-Meteo and geolocation services
- Stocks — Yahoo Finance
- Cryptocurrency — CoinGecko
- Gmail — Google Gmail API (only with your explicit OAuth consent)
These requests go directly from your browser to the respective services. We do not proxy or store this data on our servers.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal data
- We do not run ads on your new tab dashboard
- We do not collect browsing history beyond optional Top Sites (which stays local)
- We do not require an account to use SmartTab
